Historical
The Wireless Strain Gauge Instrumentation System is a wireless, high-speed, synchronized data acquisition network for dynamic sensing, recording, and processing applications using resistive transducers. The system includes WSGIS Remote Units, a Receiver Unit, and Application Software.
The WSGIS Remote Unit is a small, battery-powered, autonomous, wireless device designed for acquisition and recording of high-speed strain data. The unit acquires data from four external resistive transducer channels that are ideal for strain gauges, and can be pre-programmed for multiple acquisition events. The unit then autonomously follows the user-programmed schedule of events (e.g., sleep, data acquisition, and data processing). Within the schedule, the unit can follow dichotomous paths that are selected based on sensed events.
Download and event setup commands are issued either wirelessly or through a standard USB connection from Application Software running on a PC.
The WSGIS system was designed for NASA to monitor stresses on the Space Shuttle robotic arm.
Features:
- 20KHz Sample Rate
- 4 External Resistive Transducer channels per unit
- 4 External low-speed RTD channels per unit
- Approximate Size: 7.0cm x 3.8cm x 8.3cm (not including flanges or antenna)
